Reach: Immersive VR Action

For the last two years, I've been working as part of the nDreams Elevation team to create Reach, an immersive virtual reality (VR) game title that's jam packed with beautiful environments, flowing action, and heart-pounding set pieces. I've had the pleasure of designing levels for Reach, and contributed a decent chunk of the game's writing.

It comes out on the 16th of October for PCVR, PSVR2 and Meta Quest 3, and I'm SO excited for people to get their hands on it.

What is Reach?

Reach is an action adventure game designed exclusively for virtual reality. You take on the role of Rosa, who unexpectedly finds herself deep underground, coming face to face with a race of ancient stone creatures.

You'll get to explore this underground world and uncover its secrets while fending off hostiles using a bow, a throwing shield, various arrow types (freeze, stun, explode), and a variety of traversal tools (grapple hook, anyone?).

What does Reach do differently?

The Elevation team has focused on crafting a game that puts the VR experience first and foremost. Every interaction, set piece, and narrative moment has been designed with VR in mind, letting you interact with the world mainly with your hands.

See a small space? Reach in and drag yourself through it.

Want to see if that golden trellis thing is climbable? Try scaling it.

That cute flying creature is looking at me, can I wave at it? Oh my god it waved back!

We want people to feel fully immersed too, so we've given you a full body rather than a floating pair of hands, and gesture-based abilities mean you'll be throwing your arms up to make jumps and flinging yourself from ledge to ledge. It's a fun workout.

What have I contributed to Reach?

I'll go into detail about my contribution in portfolio posts a little further down the line, but broadly speaking, I've been responsible for designing a handful of the Reach's levels, and for writing a hefty chunk of the game's script. I even got the opportunity to visit SIDE studios in London to work alongside the magnificent voice actors who have brought the lines I've written to life.

I'll be posting more news and info soon, so keep an eye out for more posts. In the meantime, you can pre-order (or wishlist) Reach here:
